Altura Cogen

Altura Cogen is a 600-megawatts (MW) natural-gas fired, combined cycle co-generation facility located in Channelview, Texas, about 15 miles east of Houston.

Altura Cogen sells steam and electricity to the Lyondell Chemical Company, and also sells power to the open wholesale Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market.

The combustion-turbine Units 1 through 5 and the steam-turbine came into service in 1985, while a sixth combustion-turbine was added in 1995. Steam, capacity and energy are provided under a long-term contract to Lyondell Chemical Company.

Altura Cogen was acquired on August 1, 2007 and today employs a team of about 35 full time employees.
