Twin Oaks is a 305-megawatt (MW) lignite-fired power plant in Robertson County, near Bremond,
Texas, about 150 miles south of Dallas and 160 miles northwest of Houston.
Twin Oaks uses circulating fluidized-bed combustion technology that minimizes emissions and reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx). The injection of crushed limestone in the process is used to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions.
Electricity from Twin Oaks is sold to wholesale electricity customers in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market.
The plant's two units have been fully operational since 1991 and have total capacity of 305 MW.
Twin Oaks creates significant job opportunities for Texans. Today, we employ a team of about 65 full time employees at Twin Oaks with significant use of specialized contract support personnel.
One of the cleanest lignite-fired power plants in Texas, Twin Oaks uses circulating, fluidized-bed combustion technology that minimizes emissions. Low-combustion temperatures reduce the amount of NOx formed, and the injection of crushed limestone in the boiler reduces SO2 emissions. The plant does not require scrubbers, coal pulverizers or burners.
Fuel FlexibilityWhile Twin Oaks's primary fuel is lignite, it has the ability to produce electricity using:
Ash Handling & DisposalThe combustion of lignite results in bottom ash and fly ash, both of which are continually removed from the Twin Oaks boilers. The ash is then sold or delivered to an onsite landfill.
